It has been almost a month now since I have been stuck at home with my parents because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
During this month, I’ve had a lot of time to learn new things and appreciate what I have.
The only time I have left the house has been to go on walks with my mom and get some fresh air. It’s something I never really did before this pandemic, but it is becoming one of my favourite things to do.
I’ve learned it’s pretty hard to get some sun if you don’t really go outside, so I started making sure I spend at least an hour outside to get some vitamin D.
It has taught me a lot about this field of work too. Journalists are always working. Not just to give people more information about the COVID-19 virus but to bring them other positive news as well.
In a time when a lot of people are hearing sad stories, journalists are looking deeper and finding the happy, heartwarming stories.
I’ve also realized that journalists are most definitely essential workers, so in the future, I’ll probably never really get a vacation.
The technology we have makes it easier to send stories remotely, so we are still able to do our job even if it is done from home.
Conducting interviews, writing stories, and editing are all things I thought were impossible to do unless I met with people in-person.
I now see how technology is so important in that process.
Overall, I’ve learned spending time with my family and getting sun are some of the ways that I keep my spirits up and stay positive during these tough times. As well, working with my team has been rewarding as they are great people to work with and are very supportive of each other’s work.
