WHAT ISOLATION HAS TAUGHT ME...

This week we are writing about what we have learned so far during isolation. For me, I think a more appropriate term would be what I've realized.

I’ve always known these things, but social distancing and isolation make them more apparent and relevant in my everyday life.

The first thing is that I don’t make enough time for hobbies in my “normal” (pre-pandemic) life!

Having more free time the last couple weeks, I have picked up a couple of my hobbies I was slacking on and wow, was I lacking some skills. For example, watercolour painting.

My first couple of paintings were not good. It's like I forgot all the techniques I've learned over the years. It made me think about how much better I could be if I had just kept to it, even just once a week.

Another thing I realized was how grateful I am to have a great family and household. Of course, I knew this before but it became more apparent as I saw people I know struggling to move back home with their parents or live with their families.

I have always had a good relationship with my parents and our house is almost always a calm, quiet place. Honestly, when I moved back home after living on my own for a bit, I didn’t know if I’d like it. After some time, I knew it was the right decision and it worked for all of us.

The last thing I realized was only you can bring yourself happiness. I sometimes find myself relying on my friends, activities, school, or other external factors to bring me happiness and feel good.

With a majority of those things being taken away, I have learned to look inward for happiness. Focus on what you can control and do things that make you productive and content.
