WHAT ISOLATION HAS TAUGHT ME...

I’ve learned a lot while being in isolation over the past four weeks. Some people are taking this time to learn a new skill, while others are polishing up old ones. For me, I’m just trying to do what I didn’t have time to before.

The past two years of school have been non-stop and looking back I never really gave myself a chance to take a break. So, during these past four weeks, that’s something I’ve been learning to do again.

I give myself time to do nothing, to relax, and actually back away from all the craziness that’s going on. If you were to have told me a month ago that I would be letting myself relax, I would have laughed.

If isolation has taught me one thing, it’s that everyone needs to take a step back once in a while. Things won’t fall apart if you give yourself a break. Chances are things will actually be better if you take a break.

Aside from learning it’s okay to take a step back from work and school, I’ve learned how much I missed having the time to bake and cook. Growing up, that’s something I always used to do with my grandparents. Yet, as I got older, I found myself doing it less and less.

Now, four weeks into isolation, I’m cooking and baking multiple times a week. Being stuck in isolation has really shown me how much I missed being able to do that.

I’m someone who always likes to have a plan for life. Before isolation, I had a lot of what I wanted to do next planned out. However, because of this, I’ve learned plans can change fast and out of the blue.

I think that was the hardest thing for me to come to terms with. No matter how hard you work and how much you plan for something, it can all change in minutes.
