I am a graduating Journalism – Mass Media student at Durham College. Some of my passions include beauty, painting, dance, and of course, writing.
I have always known I wanted to write, either as a hobby or a career. After finding out a degree in liberal arts wasn’t for me, I applied to the Journalism – Mass Media program at Durham College and the rest is history.
Looking at me, you might not know I am technically disabled but continue to live a relatively normal life. I was born with a genetic condition called Cystic Fibrosis, which mainly affects my lungs and digestive system. For me, my lungs are my biggest issue (especially scary during a flu pandemic).
Needless to say, I have been extra careful during this pandemic as I am part of the high risk population. I haven't been to a store, or really a building outside my house, in a few weeks. However, I still take walks and drives almost every day to avoid going insane.
This pandemic has been bittersweet for me. I am happy about the amount of downtime I have now but the anxiety around the situation is not fun. I am immunocompromised and high risk, so I have been extra careful about social distancing and washing my hands. I am grateful my family and household are also taking this seriously and taking extra precautions.
So, what am I doing while stuck inside? I’m putting more time towards my hobbies! I have watercolor painted a bit and finished two books that were half-read. My household has even finished two puzzles so far.
While I am on my walks or drives, I like to listen to podcasts. This is also the perfect time to create your dream playlists as you have no co-workers to bother you these days.
Don’t get me wrong, I have done my fair share of social media scrolling and movie watching but even that gets boring. I am the type of person who hates to feel lazy (although I can still be very lazy). So, I have been working towards establishing a routine.
I'll update when I get one!
I wanted to take this chance to remind everyone that social distancing during this time is essential. Many of us take our health for granted. Trust me, having poor lungs is not fun. Remember to protect yourself and others during this time.
